Achieve Lacrosse Indoor Girl's Rules:
TEAM SIZE
Each team will play 7 per side; 1 goalie, 2 attack, 2 defense and 2 midfield on the field at a time.
EQUIPMENT
All players are required to wear a mouth guard and protective eyewear. Goalies should wear ALL required field lacrosse equipment.
GAME LENGTH
Two 25 minute running time halves; the clock will start on the hour. Teams must be ready to play 5 minutes before the hour and warm up as the previous hour’s teams are packing up. We encourage all players to arrive 15 minutes prior to game time to dress and stretch. The clock will run even if teams are not ready to play. Tournament Rules differ in Game Length….
DRAW
Draws will occur at the beginning of each halve, one center from each team will draw at the center of the field. After a goal the play will start again with the goalie clearing to her defense.
SUBSTITUTIONS
All subbing is to be done on the fly or at a stoppage of play that is acknowledged by the referee. There is no horn to signal a substitution play. Players are not allowed to stand on the field waiting to be subbed.
CLEARS
A goalie has 10 seconds to clear the ball once she’s gained possession. If a goalie leaves the crease area with the ball she cannot return to the crease with possession of the ball. Goal keepers are not allowed to cross the midfield line.
6 GOAL RULE
If there is a 6 - goal difference, the team with the lower score will retain possession after they score, at the midfield line. This is referred to as our “slaughter rule”
OUT OF BOUNDS
The ball is considered out of bounds if it is lost over the boards, falls into the bench area, or touches a player not on the field. In accordance with US Lacrosse rules if it is obvious who threw the ball out of bounds the ball will change possession, and be awarded to the closest player on the opposing team. If however it is unclear, a throw between a player from each team will be taken where the out of bounds occurred.
OFF SIDES
Only 4 players from the offense and 5 from the defense (this includes the goalie) will be allowed over the restraining line. This rule is similar to the field rule with the exception of the number of players, indoors there are 2 back.
ONE PASS RULE – updates 1/2007
When possession is turned over in the defensive-end, that team must make one pass once over the Midfield line. This is to elevate any fast breaks and to encourage passing.
FOULS - MAJOR:
- Check roughly or recklessly. Checks will be controlled. Checking as it pertains to each division:
No checking at the 5/6 grade level.
For High school and 7/8 grade - A player who checks to the head will receive a 2 minute penalty and her team will play a man-down. On the 2nd offense, by the same player, she will receive a 5 minute man-down penalty. A 3rd offense results in game ejection and possible further penalties.
- Slash, excessive slashing will result in a 2 minute, man down penalty.
- Hold her Crosse within the sphere around the face or throat of an opponent.
- With any part of her body guard the goal outside the goal circle so as to obstruct the free space to goal, between the ball and the goal circle, which denies the attack the opportunity to shoot safely and encourages shooting at a player. This call should be made only if the player with the ball is looking to shoot. If she is being doubled or tripled teamed and she has no opportunity to shoot to goal, the call should not be made.
- Set a moving or stationary pick out of visual field of an opposing player which does not allow enough time or space to stop or change direction and contact occurs.
- Detain an opponent at anytime by holding, tagging, or pushing against her body, clothing, or crosse with an arm, leg, body, or crosse. A player may not hold her crosse in such a manner as to restrain or hold back a player.
- Hold, with or without cradling, the head of her crosse in front of her or her teammate’s face, within the sphere or close to her body, or her teammate’s body, making a legal/safe check impossible.
- Shoot dangerously and/or without control.
MINOR:
- Guard or cover a ground ball with her foot or crosse.
- Check/tackle an opponent’s crosse when she is trying to get possession of the ball.
- Allow any part of her body to impede, accelerate or change the direction of the ball to her team’s distinct advantage.
- Throw her crosse in any circumstance.
- Move before a whistle to start play.
PENALTIES
In addition to awarding a free position, an official may give any number of verbal cautions. If a player receives more then 3 fouls she will be suspended for the remainder of that game.
FORFEITS
A team will receive a game forfeit when less then 6 players are ready to play at the start of the game. If a team receives 2 or more forfeits in a session they are automatically removed from the standings.
